Green Energy ManagementGreen Energy management is the future and Green issues are ever present and very high on the current political agenda.  Many government initiatives are in place and several more are planned with the overall aim of reducing the UK's carbon emissions by 20% by 2020 to meet the commitment targets agreed by countries in Europe.  The relevant legislation is European Directive 2002/91/EC on the Energy Performance of Buildings.

Display Energy Certificate (DECs)

The EC Directive introduced the requirement for all public buildings to hold a DEC, which must be displayed in a prominent place, usually a reception area.  If public buildings have overall floor areas in excess of 1,000sqm then they need a DEC.

Carbon Reduction Energy Efficiency scheme (CRC)

The Carbon Reduction Energy Efficiency scheme (CRC) came into force during 2010 but the format has changed from a 'Cap and Trade scheme' to a tax on carbon emissions for companies with annual energy usage in excess of 6,000MWh, or total annual billing of around £500,000.  The first payments were due to be made by companies in 2012.

Feed in Tariffs (FITs)

Government backed loans known as Feed in tariffs (FITs) – became available in GB 1st April 2010 and are available for anyone to install their own low carbon renewable energy systems such as Photovoltaic (PV) panel systems or Wind generating turbines.  Energy suppliers are required to make regular payments to customers who generate their own electricity from renewable or low carbon sources.

Renewable Heat Incentive scheme (RHI)

In April 2011 the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme commenced.  The scheme is designed to provide financial assistance to encourage everyone from individuals, to communities and businesses to switch from using fossil fuels for heating to renewable sources such as wood fuel.  We have experience in assessing and applying for funding for several clients.

   

The Green Deal

The Green Deal commences in October 2012.  The Green Deal will enable householders and small businesses to improve energy efficiency of their properties at no upfront cost, repaying through savings made on their energy bills.  Third party providers will provide 25 year loans.
